Mechanical Finishing

To serve a broader range of customers’ needs, Surface Technology, Inc. has installed new vibratory polishing equipment. This capacity expands the range of surface finishes available on the Company's proprietary coatings. STI also offers glass bead blasting, abrasive blasting, deburring, and chemical polishing services.

When required, any of Surface Technology, Inc.’s coatings can be polished to provide an ultra smooth surface finish. Coatings that can be enhanced by this process include all varieties of electroless nickel and composite electroless nickel with fine particulate matter such as diamond (Composite Diamond Coating®™), silicon carbide (NiPLATE™ 700), PTFE (NiSLIP™ 500), boron nitride (NiSLIP™ 25), and others. While the as-coated surfaces of these coatings satisfy the majority of applications on which these coatings are used, there are some situations in which a polished surface improves the performance of the coating, or eliminates an initial break-in period.
